OT/ICS Cybersecurity Bootcamp flyer: two days, 14 hours, assess, secure, detect, respond

About this event

Operational technology (OT), industrial control systems (ICS), SCADA, PLCs and remote access now converge with the information system. That convergence improves performance, but it also exposes production, availability, people's safety and business continuity well beyond the usual IT perimeter. The bootcamp follows one thread — understand, assess, secure, detect, respond — through realistic industrial scenarios: architecture, network traffic, threat intelligence, risk assessment and incident response. Half the time is theory, half is labs and simulation.

Who it is for

CIOs, CISOs, CTOs, OT/ICS, automation and SCADA engineers, network engineers, SOC and incident-response teams, site and plant managers, risk, compliance and audit leads, and consultants working with industrial clients. Sectors: energy, oil and gas, mining, manufacturing, utilities, transport, critical infrastructure. No prior certification is required.

Programme

  1. Day 1 · 8.30amWhy OT cybersecurity is different: IT vs OT, operational risk, people's safety
  2. Day 1 · 9.00amOT/ICS architecture: SCADA, DCS, PLC, RTU, HMI, SIS, the Purdue model, third-party access
  3. Day 1 · 10.30amHow industrial environments are attacked: phishing, remote access, supply chain, lateral movement from IT to OT
  4. Day 1 · 1.00pmAsset discovery, exposure and threat intelligence
  5. Day 1 · 2.45pmOT cyber risk and IEC 62443: zones and conduits, defence in depth
  6. Day 1 · 4.15pmFrom risk to roadmap: immediate, 0-30, 31-60, 61-90 days
  7. Day 2 · 8.45amSecurity controls and OT hardening: segmentation, remote access, allowlisting, legacy systems
  8. Day 2 · 10.30amOT monitoring, detection and intelligence: baseline, NSM, IDS/NDR, SOC integration
  9. Day 2 · 1.15pmOT incident response and cyber resilience: containment, continuity, evidence, crisis communication
  10. Day 2 · 2.45pmFinal exercise "The plant is under attack": team simulation across SOC, engineering, operations and management
  11. Day 2 · 4.30pmExecutive debrief and 90-day action plan

The practical kit each participant takes away

  • OT asset inventory template: type, owner, network, firmware, criticality, remote connectivity.
  • OT cyber-risk assessment sheet: threats, vulnerabilities, exposure, impact, controls, residual risk.
  • IEC 62443 worksheet: zones and conduits.
  • OT vulnerability prioritisation matrix, to go beyond the CVSS score alone.
  • OT incident-response checklist, from alert through recovery to lessons learned.
  • 90-day OT roadmap template.

Scope, assessment and certificate

  • Defence first: this is not an OT penetration-testing certification. Attack techniques are studied in order to defend better, and demonstrations are controlled.
  • Vendor-independent: tools and concepts such as Wireshark, Zeek and Suricata, with no commercial bias.
  • An introduction to IEC 62443, which does not replace a certification course.
  • Short quizzes during the course, performance assessment in the labs, and a final assessment: understand the architecture, identify the attack, assess operational impact, propose containment and recovery, communicate the incident.
  • A 14-hour certificate of participation. The course is not an accredited professional certification.
  • Course designed by Farell Folly, chair of the scientific committee of CIIC — Industrial Cybersecurity Africa. Organised and sold by Skill Class Event, Abidjan.
